Global Ocean Clusters in the Pacific
Objective
The objective of this project is to explore and share ideas between Iceland and the Pacific region on how we can “do more with less” by making better use of our precious seafood resources. The project aims to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange between Pacific Island nations and Iceland. By encouraging sustainable practices and supporting local entrepreneurs, the project seeks to enhance food security, create new opportunities within the blue economy, and strengthen long-term partnerships that promote resilient and inclusive growth.
Context
The Pacific Islands are home to some of the world’s richest tuna fishing grounds. At the same time, there is growing interest in exploring new opportunities to increase the benefits from these precious marine resources for local communities through innovation, collaboration, and knowledge exchange. This project builds on shared experiences between the Pacific and Iceland, creating space for mutual learning and partnership through cluster thinking, with a focus on sustainable seafood, community wellbeing, and resilient blue economies.

Partners
The project is led by the Iceland Ocean Cluster in collaboration with Moananui.
Funding
The project is funded by the Sustainable Development Goals Partnership Fund 2024 (Heimsmarkmiðasjóður atvinnulífs um þróunarsamvinnu).
