The Iceland Ocean Cluster hosted a panel discussion in September exploring transformational innovation for people, planet, and profit. Innovation Project Manager Benedek Regoczi moderated the session, which brought together diverse perspectives during times of rapid climatic, technological, and ecological shifts.

On the panel were Linnéa Engström, Kristinn Þór Sigurðsson, Justine Vanhalst, and Dr. Toby Erik Wikström. The conversation examined what transformational innovation requires: systems awareness, willingness to reject old conventions, critical thinking, and courage to imagine new measures of value.

The panel explored how balancing people, planet, and profit means reconnecting with stakeholders who have lost faith and working together even with competitors when greater impact requires collaboration. Participants discussed the skills future leaders will need to create lasting solutions, including embracing the role of the “wicked scientist” to tackle complex problems. The session emphasized that building a sustainable future in the blue economy demands new approaches to both leadership and problem-solving.
