On 3 September 2026, Breið Development Association, in collaboration with Þörungakjarninn, will host the seaweed conference “Gold in Shallow Waters – Opportunities for Seaweed in Iceland” at Breið Innovation Centre in Akranes.
The event will bring together companies, researchers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to explore the growing opportunities surrounding seaweed research, cultivation, processing & utilisation in Iceland.
Seaweed represents a promising resource for the development of new products and solutions across sectors including food, biotechnology, feed, cosmetics and environmental applications. The conference will provide a platform for sharing knowledge, presenting innovative projects and discussing the future development of Iceland´s seaweed sector.
