A Celebration of Innovation in the Blue Economy

As part of Iceland Innovation Week 2025, we opened the doors of the Iceland Ocean Cluster for our annual Blue Open House – and what an inspiring afternoon it was!

The event was officially opened at 14:00 by Guðmundur Kristjánsson, CEO of Brim, joined by Þór Sigfússon, founder and chairman of the Iceland Ocean Cluster, and Árni Mathiesen, former Minister of Fisheries (1999–2005). The house was buzzing with energy, ideas, and a shared drive to create sustainable value from the ocean.

Throughout the building, visitors could explore a wide range of innovative companies working in the blue and circular economies:

A vibrant showcase of companies in the main hall including:
Kerecis – LearnCoveEylíf – Matís, GreenFish – Astrid – Feldur – Aquatiq, GeoSalmo – Hefring Marine – GeoSilica – Marea – Sea Growth – Alvar – Responsible Food – Ankeri – Feel Iceland.

A spotlight on young startups bringing fresh ideas to the sector in the centre of the Hús:
Jurt (aka Nordic Wasabi) – Urri – Optitog

A dedicated space for the Iceland Eco Business Park, featuring startups such as:
Thermal BeetsifarmHof GarðyrkjaHringvarmiRockPoreSvepparíkið.

We were also honoured to welcome international guests, including Charles from the Oregon Ocean Cluster and Alain Grenier from MRC Côte-de-Gaspé in Quebec, who joined us to explore cross-cluster collaboration.

And let’s not forget the refreshments : guests could enjoy Collab energy drinks made with collagen from fish skin from Feel Iceland, a perfect touch of innovation to keep everyone hydrated and energized!
